Brandon Drury and Sam Gaviglio have been designated for assignment in order to open up room on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Ross Stripling and Jonathan Villar. Meanwhile, Robbie Ray took Travis Bergen’s spot on the roster.

Drury put together an absolutely miserable season. He managed just seven hits, six of which were singles, across 49 plate appearances an accumulated an impressive -1.1 WAR in the process. The fact he was optioned despite the lack of infield depth on the team was a testament to how big of a mess he was at the plate this season.
I think this might be the end of the Drury Experiment. Since leaving Arizona, he’s slashed a .205/.254/.346 line and hasn’t looked like a big-league calibre player. There’s a chance another team could give him a go, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Drury made it through unclaimed.
And then there’s Sam Gaviglio, who caught the ire of the fans after being thrown into the deep end early on in the season. …
