NHL History: Gary Roberts triple-OT winner gives Toronto Maple Leafs win over Ottawa Senators

It was 18 years ago today that the Toronto Maple Leafs played a triple-overtime thriller against the Ottawa Senators in game two of the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
Toronto cruised to a 43-25-10-4, 100 point regular season as the Leafs were matched up with the New York Islanders in the first round.
After beating them in seven games, they matched up with their provincial rivals in the Senators.
Ottawa snagged a 5-0 win in game one and game two needed a lot of extra time. Travis Green and Darcy Tucker got Toronto on the board in the first period, while Sami Salo and Mike Fisher got second, and third-period goals for Ottawa.
It took a whole three extra frames for the game, which happened yesterday in 2002, to be ended and it was a 35-year-old Gary Roberts who managed to break the tie.
The series went to seven games where the Leafs were able to be victors. Toronto eventually fell in the third round to the Carolina Hurricanes in a six game series that saw the Leafs lose three heartbreaker in overtime.
