Could the Raptors help create a Toronto WNBA team?

The 2021 WNBA Draft concluded not too long ago, and this was an event where a dozen teams had a shot to improve their rosters immediately. The issue is, several players who play in women’s college basketball don’t end up earning the opportunity to be selected by a WNBA franchise, and none of those draftees […]

Toronto Raptors draft: Canadian Marcus Carr could be ideal for the Raptors if he declares for the draft

The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 tonight, extending their winning streak to five games.
Auston Matthews, TJ Brodie and Zach Hyman scored for the Leafs, while Corey Perry scored both goals for the Habs. Jack Campbell improves to 10-0-0 on the season and extended his season-long win streak to 10 games, setting a new record for the Leafs.
The Leafs came out of the gate quickly to start the game. Matthews scored off a fade-away wrap-around just 54 seconds in to give the Leafs the early lead. The goal was Matthews’ 28th of the season, giving him a five-goal lead over second place Connor McDavid. Corey Perry responded just under 2 minutes later to even the game up at 1-1.

Toronto Raptors: Drafting Evan Mobley would be a dream come true in 2021 NBA Draft

Toronto Raptors: Drafting Evan Mobley would be a dream come true in 2021 NBA Draft

The 2021 NBA Draft is pretty strong as far as draft classes go. It’s full of high-character guys, a good mix of positional talent, and a deep pool of NBA-level players for the Toronto Raptors to chose from. Still, there are five in this class that stand out in Cade Cunningham, the G-League Ignite’s Jalen Green […]

3 goalies the Leafs should consider acquiring with this season and next in mind

The 2021 season has been one of instability in the crease either due to injuries or players getting lost to waivers. Jack Campbell has been in and out of the lineup yet remains perfect through his first seven starts. Frederik Andersen has also been in and out of the lineup but his performance to this point is, to quote Randy Carlyle, “just ok.”
In the last few weeks, Andersen has missed time because of nagging injuries that he admitted have bothered him all year long. He has been making progress towards recovery but it remains to be seen when he will make his return and if he can return to his pre-injury form. Since all signs appear to point towards him leaving the organization at season’s end, this recent stretch is giving management a sneak preview at what might be to come for 2021-22. So far, the early results show that Campbell will likely need some help due to him having minimal experience at the NHL level as the starter. It might also have to do with him still recovering from numerous ailments, but the fact remains the Leafs are going to be cautious with Campbell the rest of the …

Determining the Value of a First Round Draft Pick in 2021 and How it Affects the Maple Leafs

The 2021 NHL Draft has been surrounded by questions of if/when it should take place this season or next, how do teams scout for it and so much more. Frankly, it has been a bit of a mess. This is on top of the fact that the draft class lacks a franchise-altering talent such as Auston Matthews or Connor McDavid, there isn’t even an Alexis Lafrenière or Jack Hughes. While talents such as Matthew Beniers, William Eklund, Owen Power, and others will likely be very good NHL talents who will play key roles, we are looking at something more similar to the 2012 Draft than the 2020 class.
Projecting talent is difficult on the best days and impossible on the worst. The judgments of the 2021 Draft class as a whole have been well documented. Whether it has been Scott Wheeler from the Athletic, the crew at Elite Prospects, or the DobberProspects team, the consensus has been that it is a substandard class. One metric that can help estimate raw production is PNHLe, developed by Mason Black and used on his NHL Rank King app.
PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at …
