Andreas Johnsson is close to being a 100% healthy boy

Good news out of Leafs land…

This is pretty great progress, especially considering there are still a few more days for him to get in full work before the playoffs start. Now that’s wishful thinking, but admittedly it now seems like a possibility we see Johnsson against the Blue Jackets and who doesn’t want to see more Johnsson?
What to expect from Andreas Johnsson this summer

As for the rest of the practice, well, the lines looked the same as they did yesterday and pretty much how they were used against Montreal:

That begs the question of where will Johnsson slot in once he’s available.
I can’t see Clifford coming out. I don’t want to see Robertson come out unless things don’t work out in the first couple of games. Seeing Gauthier come out seems unlikely as well as I’m not sure Keefe wants to shift Spezza …

What to expect from Andreas Johnsson this summer

What can you say about Andreas Johnsson’s 2019/2020 campaign other than “Well, he was there.”

#Leafs have recalled Nic Petan, Martin Marincin and Pontus Aberg from the Marlies.

Maple Leafs forward Andreas Johnsson has been placed on injured reserve. #LeafsForever
— Leafs PR (@LeafsPR) February 16, 2020

OH. We can’t even really say that? Well this one should be fun.
By the numbers
After a strong rookie season that saw Johnsson put up 20 goals, his second full season in the NHL has been one Johnsson would most likely prefer to forget. In between two stints on injured reserve, Johnsson has only managed a 21 points, with a mere 8 goals (only 3 of which came at 5v5, compared to the 16 he scored in 18/19.) While such a stark drop off in scoring may seem concerning, the biggest issue with Johnson this year appears to be a swap of a peak for a valley in terms of shooting percentage, especially at 5v5. While his 10.3 SH% on …

5 trades the Leafs could make that would make their roster worse

Andreas Johnsson and Kasperi Kapanen are both pretty good hockey players, but the Leafs have a lot of pretty good hockey players. It would not be wise to trade these guys for worse hockey players, but NHL general managers make bad decisions all the time. Instead of pushing for some hypothetical trades that the Leafs could do to make their roster better and more likely to compete for a playoff spot and hopefully the Stanley Cup, here are five moves that the Leafs could do if they just really wanted to sewer themselves.
Andreas Johnsson and Kasperi Kapanen to Calgary for Milan Lucic
This one is about as easy as it gets when it comes to bad deals. For some reason, the Calgary Flames felt the best way to deal with their James-Neal-isn’t-scoring-problem was to trade him for one of the worst players in the league. The Leafs could make an even worse deal, by packaging Johnsson’s cap hit of $3.4 million alongside Kapanen’s $3.2 million to easily make up the $6 million Lucic makes. Of course, Lucic would have to waive his no trade clause, so this one might not come to fruition.
Kasperi Kapanen and …

Everything goes well, Leafs win 3-2 at home to takes series lead

Thanks to massive goals from Andreas Johnsson, Auston Matthews and Trevor Moore, the Leafs take Game 3 and the series lead over the Boston Bruins.
Although the Leafs lost the shot battle 36-34, they were able to keep the pressure on the Bruins all-game-long. Scoring two important powerplay goals and actually getting some penalty calls were able to keep the Leafs in the game.
To set up the first goal of the game, the fourth line had a massive play and continued it throughout the game. Gauthier, Ennis, and the goalscorer Trevor Moore had important roles to play and did them well.
Matthews had a goal and an assist as well — hopefully to start his hot streak to pull the series out for the Leafs.
The Leafs win 3-2 and have the chance to take a two-game lead in the series at home on Wednesday.
The Leafs had a red-hot start to the game, controlling the play right from the beginning. A key shift to set the mood from start came from the fourth line, appearing almost like a powerplay shift and hemming the Bruins into their own zone.
Through the first eight minutes of even-strength hockey, the Leafs were …
