Raptors: Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan salute Fred VanVleet after 54-point night

Raptors: Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan salute Fred VanVleet after 54-point night

If anyone on this Toronto Raptors roster was penciled in as the favorite to break DeMar DeRozan’s franchise single-game scoring record of 52 points, veteran point guard Kyle Lowry seemed like the most likely choice. However, during a 123-108 win against the Orlando Magic, it was Fred VanVleet who topped that mark with 54 points […]

Toronto Raptors: Reasons why Chris Boucher should still come off the bench

Toronto Raptors: Reasons why Chris Boucher should still come off the bench

It’s no surprise to anyone that the Toronto Raptors have had their struggles this season with their centres and the decision on who to start and who to sit. The Toronto Raptors signed big men Aron Baynes and Alex Len after losing both of their own big men in Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol, which […]

Toronto Raptors should walk away from Terence Davis

Toronto Raptors should walk away from Terence Davis

I believe that anyone is innocent until proven guilty, but the Toronto Raptors should walk away from Terence Davis. A few days ago, Toronto Raptors guard Terence Davis was charged in New York City after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this scenario in Toronto, but I hope it’s the last. […]

Toronto Raptors: Relive Vince Carter’s iconic dunk in bobblehead form

Twenty years ago (anyone else feeling old?), Vince Carter dropped an iconic dunk in the dunk contest. So Toronto Raptors fans are going to love this bobblehead. You know what? Let’s party like it’s 2000. When Vince Carter was on the Toronto Raptors and regularly putting opposing players on posters. When he was dominating the […]

Leafs practice gives us first look at what the Muzzin-less lineup looks like

It’s probably not what anyone outside of what TLN writer Nick Barden wants, but for the time being, it looks like Martin Marincin will be in the lineup.

August 5 @MapleLeafs practice lines & defensive pairings:
Hyman–Matthews–MarnerNylander–Tavares–MikheyevRobertson–Kerfoot–KapanenClifford–Engvall–SpezzaJohnsson–Gauthier
Dermott–HollRielly–CeciMarincin–BarrieSandin–Liljegren
Andersen Campbell#LeafsForever
— Leafs PR (@LeafsPR) August 5, 2020

These pairings really seem to underline the importance of having Jake Muzzin in the lineup, so hopefully his recovery is speedy and the Leafs get him back for the next round, assuming they can make it past the Blue Jackets.
Before we look at the defensive pairings, we’ll acknowledge the forwards remain unchanged from how they finished game 2.
Now the pairings…
Rielly-Ceci
Strangely, this is still being listed as the second pairing by the Leafs. Likely pointing to the need to shelter them a bit more, but while it is fun to criticize Cody Ceci, it’s important to acknowledge the Leafs have allowed one goal in the past two games, and there is nothing to say that breaking up an established pairing …

TRADE!!! Jordan Schmaltz is off to Long Island

Okay, so this isn’t the deal anyone hoped for, but it’s a trade nonetheless…

Minor-league transaction: NYI trades Matt Lorito to TOR for Jordan Schmaltz.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) February 24, 2020
I’m sorry very tired and don’t want to break this down. They’re AHLers, the impact is minimal, but I at least went through the trouble of looking up some information on Matt Lorito for you, so you don’t have to.
He’s a 29 year old winger from Oakville. He’s 5’9, and has 23 points in 50 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers this year. He had 2 games with the Red Wings back in 2016-17, when he picked up 1 assist. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Maple Leafs Pregame #30: 5 Things to watch for as the Leafs try to hit CTRL+Z

Anyone else want to pretend that last night didn’t happen? Cool. Never did. The Leafs lost a hard fought goaltending battle and that’s the way I choose to remember it, as that is what it was when I went to go pick my wife up some Klondike Bars at Sobeys.
Tonight might not be a fun one either. Michael Hutchinson is in net and that’s the opposite of fun. Kadri is back. We love Kadri, but I kinda wish we were doing a bit better when running into an ex, especially one we wouldn’t mind getting back together with.
