The “Players to be Named Later” from the Eric Sogard deal have been announced

Prior to the trade deadline, the Jays sent Eric Sogard to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for two Players to be Named Later. According to the team’s official account, those prospects are pitchers Curtis Taylor and Edisson Gonzalez.

OFFICIAL: We’ve acquired RHP Curtis Taylor and RHP Edisson Gonzalez from @RaysBaseball to complete the trade of INF Eric Sogard.

Taylor is a right-handed pitcher from British Columbia who was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks back in 2016. After one year in the Diamondbacks organization, he was sent to Tampa Bay in exchange for Brad Boxberger. Taylor pitched as a reliever in Double-A this season, putting together a 3.06 ERA over 17 2/3 innings, striking out 8.2 batters per nine while walking 2.5 batters per nine. Across four seasons in the minors, Taylor has a sparkling 2.84 ERA.
Here are some notes on Taylor, courtesy of Wander Rays…

Fastball rated as plus by many
Slider (imo) above-average
Confident, poised
Gets swings and misses
Change up needs work
Allowed fair amount of FB (49%), fewer GB than ideal (30%)

Bo Bichette will join the Blue Jays in Kansas City

With Eric Sogard getting dealt to Tampa Bay today, it seemed inevitable that Bo Bichette would soon join the Blue Jays in his place. But then with Marcus Stroman also getting dealt, rumours randomly started swirling that the Jays’ top prospect could, in fact, be also involved in the deal.

The team announced today that they have moved Ryan Borucki from the 10-day Injured List to the 60-day Injured List, indicating that his elbow issues are more serious that originally anticipated.

ROSTER MOVES: We’ve selected the contract of INF Eric Sogard, and optioned INF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to the @BuffaloBisons.
To make room on our 40-man roster, LHP Ryan Borucki has been transferred to the 60-day IL.
— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) April 15, 2019

Borucki, of course, was originally slated to be on of Toronto’s five starting pitchers out of the gate this season, but elbow soreness resulted in him starting the season on the Injured List. It was originally expected that he would only be out for a few weeks and that he would be back with the club in mid-to-late April, but Borucki experienced soreness in his elbow in a minor league game last week.
This is obviously disappointing news as the young starter had an excellent start to …
