Blue Jays Rehab Recap: Mitch White struggles, a prospect hurls a gem, and more!

Over the past few days in the minor leagues, there have been a few pitchers with rehab assignments.

In this article, we’ll look at how big leaguers Adam Cimber and Mitch White did, along with CJ Van Eyk, who is returning from Tommy John surgery.
Let’s start with Cimber.
Adam Cimber’s first rehab appearance:

As you likely know, the 32-year-old submarine pitcher made his first rehab appearance on May 11th. He finished with a line of 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. Recovering from a rhomboid injury, it’s likely that Cimber was limited to 20 pitches, as he only threw 17 before getting the hook.
He threw 10 four-seam fastballs, averaging 86.3 mph and touching 87.3. Interestingly, this was actually 1.7 mph more than his yearly average in 2023. He also thre five slider, averaging 73.6 mph (0.7 mph below his yearly average).
Cimber also generated a single whiff on the fastball, finishing with a 13 whiff% on eight total swings. He got Ricardo Rosario to fly out to centre field (94.8 mph exit velocity). Before walking the next batter on nine pitches, and striking out the last batter he faced.
Overall, it was a fine appearance for Cimber. It’s likely that he’ll make a few more appearances on his rehab assignment, but I’d expect it to be with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
Mitch White’s fourth rehab appearance:
Sadly, Mitch White didn’t have the greatest outing in his fourth app …

Raptors news: OG Anunoby makes All-Defensive, top recruit work out

The Toronto Raptors have long held one of the league’s best-kept secrets under their nose, as OG Anunoby has been consistently underrated by the powers that be in the NBA. His defensive skills are elite, yet names like Matisse Thybulle got more All-Defensive Team love than him. Anunoby was putting together an excellent season last […]

Toronto Maple Leafs one of just two NHL teams with zero prospects at 2023 World Juniors

Toronto Maple Leafs one of just two NHL teams with zero prospects at 2023 World Juniors

Being one of the National Hockey League’s top teams comes at a cost.

Boxing Day typically marks the start of the World Juniors, one of the hockey world’s most exciting events, and this year is no different. The 2023 World Junior Championship begins today with four games: Finland/Switzerland, Sweden/Austria, Latvia/USA, and Czechia/Canada.
But, for the first time since 1982, the Toronto Maple Leafs won’t have a single prospect taking part in this year’s World Juniors. A four-decade streak of Maple Leafs representation will come to an end when the first puck drops on Monday.
In a sense, it’s understandable. With a 21–7–6 record through the first three months of the season, the Leafs are a Stanley Cup contender with the desire to win now. They’ve made just eight picks over the last two drafts.
But the cupboards aren’t completely bare. Matthew Knies is just barely too old to play for Team USA this year, while Ty Voit was a curious omission on the part of USA Hockey considering his fantastic statline with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting. The Leafs selected both Knies and Voit in 2021.
Meanwhile, 2022 fifth-round pick Nikita Grebenkin would’ve been a shoo …

Raptors: 3 2022 All-Stars Pascal Siakam is clearly better than

The Toronto Raptors are lucky enough to have one of the league’s best players in Pascal Siakam. Fresh off the most statistically proficient season of his career, the Cameroonian star was named an All-NBA player for the second time in his career despite missing out on the All-Star team. Siakam averaged 22.8 points per game […]

Fortnight on the Farm, Vol. 7

At the All-star break (throughout the full season leagues) is not really “halfway home” – we did that two weeks ago – but because it’s unusually late in the month, you can look at performance in July as a decent sample and maybe jumping off to a larger one, but of course, in a few cases observations are sullied by having changed teams or been injured.

Buffalo Bisons
There’s hardly anything worth reporting about the Bisons pitching staff except that the guys you’ve seen in the majors – Thornton, Gage, Saucedo, Lawrence – are generally doing fine here if they are healthy. Even Thomas Hatch has had a couple of perfectly fine starts since that disaster against Tampa which, to be honest, doesn’t reflect his abilities.
Offensively the big story now, with due respect to more highly ranked prospects, is 1B Spencer Horwitz. In 11 games since his promotion, he has a .869 OPS. Gabby Moreno just got back, no sample to speak of. Samad Taylor came off the IL for one game this month and went right back on it. Otto Lopez and Jordan Groshans remain deeply unproductive.
New Hampshire  Fisher Cats
The rotation is where the names will catch your eye on this team. Yosver Zulueta, whom you’ll recall stumbled in his first AA outing, bounced back in an impressive outing this month, throwing 4 innings of 2 hit, 1 run ball, and striking out 8. He might well …
