Raptors should not be interested in Kristaps Porzingis after playoff struggles

The Toronto Raptors will likely be one of the more active teams in the 2021 NBA offseason, as plenty of disgruntled stars could be available via trade if the front office is aggressive enough. One name that has resurfaced of late after a rough playoff series is Dallas Mavericks power forward Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis was […]

Toronto Raptors draft: 4 prospects who could fix rebounding issues

Toronto Raptors draft: 4 prospects who could fix rebounding issues

The Toronto Raptors draft plans will likely include drafting at least one big man with one of their three selections, as the addition of Khem Birch didn’t do enough to erase the fact that Toronto was one of the worst teams in the league when it came to rebounding the basketball consistently. While the Raptors […]

Toronto Raptors: 3 players who hurt their contract value in 2020-21

Toronto Raptors: 3 players who hurt their contract value in 2020-21

The Toronto Raptors will likely end up without playoff basketball for the first season in nearly a decade. For every success story, like Malachi Flynn emerging as a stud and the acquisition of Gary Trent Jr. at the deadline, Toronto had to watch the likes of Stanley Johnson and Aron Baynes eat up big minutes […]

Toronto Raptors draft: Kofi Cockburn could fit in Toronto after declaring

The Toronto Raptors draft plans will likely include drafting a big man at some point, as signing Khem Birch and Freddie Gillespie, despite how effective they have been, in no way solves the cavernous hole that remains in this roster. If Masai Ujiri wants to add through the draft, look for him to target Illinois […]

Raptors: What Blake Griffin likely going to the Nets means for Toronto

Raptors: What Blake Griffin likely going to the Nets means for Toronto

The Toronto Raptors will likely look to the buyout market in order to find some studs that could help contribute to their playoff push, and former Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin could’ve helped in that pursuit, albeit in a very rigidly defined role. Griffin, who hasn’t dunked this year, is averaging 12.3 points per game […]

Raptors: Norman Powell is making it impossible to trade him

The Toronto Raptors will likely be in the market for some of the potential trade chips that will become available at the 2021 Trade Deadline. If they want to potentially upgrade their frontcourt, Toronto doesn’t have a ton of pieces that could conceivably be moved. Norman Powell looked like the perfect candidate to move given […]

Raptors: 3 young centers that Masai Ujiri and Toronto could trade for

The Toronto Raptors will likely be in the market for a few new acquisitions at the 2020-21 NBA Trade Deadline, as the roster is in need of some reinforcements if they want to fend off some competition in the suddenly extremely deep Eastern Conference. Luckily for Toronto, the supply of promising young players to add […]

Will Nick Robertson play with the Toronto Maple Leafs next season?

Will Nick Robertson play with the Toronto Maple Leafs next season?

Nick Robertson’s situation is likely the most interesting of everyone on the team. It’s likely every hockey league will start in February and with the 19-year-old unable to play in the AHL, his future remains a mystery.
Many leagues could be willing to change some rules to support teams and their prospects. And even already, some NHL teams have sent players to Europe to play and to have somewhere to compete. Could the Maple Leafs send Robertson there? It’s always possible but do remember the World Juniors are coming up and he will likely play in it.
The most interesting of the leagues is the OHL, where there could be no body-checking next season (I still believe that’s unlikely). Could Robertson play there? Sure, but I don’t know if that’s in the Maple Leafs’ interest.
So then where will he end up? Watch this video and you’ll find out:

Zaitsev reportedly garnering interest from the Canucks

As far as likely destinations for Nikita Zaitsev go, we probably should have penciled the Canucks in from the very beginning due to their puzzling attempt at a rebuild on the fly. If you’ve kept up on trade rumours over the last few years, it seems Jim Benning has been in on just about every “available” name out there at some point, even going as far as tampering for then-Canadien P.K. Subban when he hit the block before being dealt to the Predators. He’s always looking to make a move, good or bad.
So yeah, it shouldn’t come as much surprise that a team with one defenceman locked into a contract beyond this upcoming season might be looking to add to their back end. And given Benning’s questionable track record, the idea of an overpay to get the mobile but ineffective Zaitsev seems like it could be in the cards. The report of Vancouver’s supposed interest comes from Sportsnet 650’s Rick Dhaliwal this afternoon.

Source : #Canucks are busy working phones on the trade market. They checked in on the price for Toronto defenseman Nikita Zaitsev who is getting lots of interest.

The Leafs’ version of Morey-ball, and an emerging path to replacing Mike Babcock

The Maple Leafs likely have some substantial changes to make this offseason. I don’t know if moving on from Mike Babcock is one of them. He makes a lot of money on a long term contract and we can’t be sure how the organization sees him relative to how the media and fanbase is starting to. That said, while a decision like that certainly isn’t foregone, it seems like everything is on the table for Kyle Dubas this summer after a disappointing albeit weird season in Toronto.
We can talk all we want about trying to take positives out of 2018-19, about how the playoffs actually showed some encouraging trends with this team. And that’s understandable to a point, the Bruins were one of the best teams in the league this year and if you look around at the other contenders that dropped out of the postseason early, the Leafs got eliminated in the least-concerning way.
But we’re not talking about those other teams like the Lightning and Jets. The Leafs have their own vision for what they want to do, and “it was a weird season for the whole league” won’t cut it …
