Grapefruit Notes: The much-anticipated George Springer debut that nobody saw

The Blue Jays remain undefeated in 2021 as they beat the Phillies by a score of 4-2 (after picking up a 2-2 tie against the Pirates on Monday.

Tuesday’s game was headlined by George Springer’s debut as a Blue Jay. Unfortunately, all we got to see from this game was A) a MLB dot com’s Gameday feed and B) a 10-second clip on Twitter of Springer hitting a single.
This whole spring training broadcast (or lack thereof) situation is obviously nothing new and everyone has pissed and moaned about it by this point. But still, it’s absolutely perplexing that Rogers allowed the Blue Jays to go out and spend $150 million on a player and the first view of them in a game wasn’t aired or even played on the radio.
Could you imagine if John Tavares’ first pre-season game with the Maple Leafs wasn’t aired? I’ve seen more effort put into broadcasting pre-pre-season NHL rookie intra-squad games than George Springer’s Blue Jays debut.
Anyways!
Things worth mentioning…

We also missed the not-quite-as-anticipated debuts of Steven Matz and Tyler Chatwood, two of Toronto’s off-season pitching additions. Matz tossed two innings and allowed one …

Toronto Raptors: Brutal Fred VanVleet quote sums up how “dumb stuff” has hurt Raptors

Toronto Raptors: Brutal Fred VanVleet quote sums up how “dumb stuff” has hurt Raptors

The Toronto Raptors remain one of the most confusing teams in the NBA this season, if not the most puzzling. After starting the season off with playoff expectations, they slumped to a 2-8 beginning before winning five of their last six games. All of their positive momentum has now ebbed away, as the Raptors lost […]

Toronto Raptors: Is Nick Nurse too reliant on Patrick McCaw?

Fans of the Toronto Raptors remain torn over Patrick McCaw’s role. Is Nick Nurse making a mistake by playing the polarizing guard as much as he has to this point in the 2019-20 season? For some fans of the Toronto Raptors, Nick Nurse’s habit of playing Patrick McCaw for 24+ minutes a night is inexcusable […]

Vegas: Raptors have third-best odds to win NBA title

Only four teams remain in the hunt, and the Bucks and Warriors are your best bet to win it all… followed by the Raptors. OK, you’ve had close to 48 hours to recover from Kawhi Leonard’s miracle bounce that finally set the stage for the NBA Conference Finals. Are you good? Calm, collected, neurons firing in all the right directions again? Good, especially if you’ve got a gambler’s mind, because you’ve only got a few hours to place your bets before the Western Finals begin!
Here are your updated NBA title odds for each of the conference finalists:

Golden State Warriors: -165

Milwaukee Bucks: +230

Toronto Raptors: +750

Portland Trail Blazers: +1700
Basically, it’s still “Warriors-versus-the-field” here, as the Vegas oddsmakers have Golden State as the overwhelming favourite. The Bucks being second-favourite is right where they were at the start of the postseason too, so nothing has changed there either — and frankly, that +230 isn’t a bad bet, if my limited sports bettor knowledge (i.e., never having bet on sports once in my entire life) tells me anything.
Should You Bet on the Raptors?
As always, we here at RaptorsHQ do not condone gambling, and as noted …

Listen to That’s A Rap #19: Post-Game 1 vs. Sixers Reaction

The Raptors remain undefeated when facing the Sixers in Game 1 of a playoff series. The Raptors keep on rolling with their largest Game 1 victory in franchise history! Alright, so there have only been two other Game 1 wins (3-point win over the Sixers in ‘01, and an 8-point win over the Wizards last year), but a win’s a win, and Raptor fans will take it knowing we’ve got the best player in the series.
In the latest episode, Kawhi Leonard had us all tripping over our own words.

On The Latest Episode:
Is it crazy to think this may not be the “Kawhi Game” that will define these playoffs? Kawhi scored a career-high 45 points and got whatever he wanted offensively. He also compiled the first 40-point, 10-rebound game in franchise history. All very fine numbers. However, the way in which Kawhi relentlessly attacked the Sixers’ defense has every Raptor fan salivating over what else he can do.
While Toronto had the two best players on the floor (again) in Kawhi and Pascal Siakam, it’s easy to forget about Marc Gasol and his continued dominance on the defensive end – both in the playoffs and against Joel Embiid. Adding to …

Forget the Battle of Winterfell, I want to know who survives the Battle of Cap Hell, Amirite? Folk’s…

I remain the worst.
Anyway, about that salary cap situation. It’s going to be less than kind to the Toronto Maple Leafs this off-season and some tough decisions are going to need to be made. I’m going to break this down in the same manner pretty much every Game of Thrones site, Pop Culture site, want to be hip news site has been breaking down the Battle of Winterfell and give you the most likely survivors and work our way towards who is most likely to be going.
God-Tier, Not Going Anywhere
John Tavares- These always start off so damned uninspired and my list is no exception. At this point you’re just looking at the name and not reading this text anyway because the name you saw at the top makes so much sense. You’re thinking, okay, this guy isn’t trying to hot take me yet, I’m going to scroll fast to see if he’s put William Nylander way too high for my liking (or not high enough.) Anyway, for those wanting some analysis on Tavares, the guy in year two of his $77 million contract isn’t going anywhere, especially after a career …
